You Never Know Who’s Fighting for their Life

Lately, I’ve had more than one person tell me something that stopped me cold:
“I almost took my life a few years ago. And nobody knew.”
And they were right. I didn’t know.
These were people I saw, laughed with, texted. People who smiled at church, posted happy photos, showed up for others. And all the while, they were quietly breaking, silently slipping into darkness—and I had no idea.
It makes you wonder… why do we wait until we’re better to tell the truth?
Is it fear? Shame? Stigma? A lack of trust that anyone would care—or understand?
The reality is, most people don’t announce their pain while they’re in it. They wear masks, bury the signs, push through. And unless you’re really paying attention—or unless they’re brave enough to speak—you might never know.
So maybe this is your reminder: Check on the people you think are fine. Especially them.
And if you’re the one hurting—don’t wait until you’re healed to speak up. You don’t have to bleed alone.
You are not a burden. You are not weak for struggling. You are not beyond help.
Say something. Even if it’s messy. Even if it’s scary. Say something.
Because someone does care.
Maybe they’re just waiting for you to let them in.
